  9. Make Your Own Screen Saver allows you to choose up to 15 of your favorite
  10. bitmaps for alternate display.  You can choose any interval from 
  11. 10 seconds to 1 minute between displays.  Make Your Own Screen Saver 
  12. also provides password capability if you need to secure your PC.

  16. This program is shareware.  You may try it out and distribute it freely.
  17. If you continue to use the program, please register with Candlelight.  
  18. The modest registration fee permits the continued development
  19. of useful and inexpensive software.

  21. Setup:
  22.  
  23. Unzip MYOWNSS.ZIP into a temporary directory or directly into your
  24. windows directory.  The zip file contains this readme.txt file and
  25. MYWOWNSS.SCR.  Windows screen saver applications have the file extension
  26. .scr.  Once MYOWNSS.SCR is in your windows directory, bring up Control 
  27. Panel and select Desktop.  In the Screen Saver group box you will see 
  28. a drop down listbox.  Open the list and select Make Your Own SS.  Next
  29. press Setup...The Make Your Own Screen Saver configuration dialog will 
  30. appear.  To add a bitmap, type its name, for example - winlogo.bmp 
  31. in the Bitmap name editbox.  Press Add Bitmap and MYOWNSS will search 
  32. for the file.  MYOWNSS looks in your windows directory and your path
  33. to locate bitmaps you have chosen to display. If it finds it, it 
  34. will be added to your list.  You may add up to 15 bitmaps.  If
  35. the bitmap name you type in is not in your path or windows directory
  36. you will receive a message telling you the program can't find the
  37. bitmap file.  Check your spelling and the location of the bitmap and
  38. try again.

  40. If you later delete or move a bitmap out of your path or windows directory,
  41. MYOWNSS will not be able to find it when it is displaying and a 
  42. small error message will appear on your screen saying that the program
  43. can't find a bitmap.  If this happens, simply go into Control Panel
  44. - Desktop and press Setup...Removing the offending bitmap name 
  45. from your list will correct the problem.

  47. When the program runs, you will first see a Candlelight Software
  48. (slightly promotional!) screen until the first bitmap is displayed.  From 
  49. that point forward, the bitmaps will simply display on the screen 
  50. sequentially - at the time interval you specify (10 to 60 seconds).
  51. If you type a number less than 10 or greater than 60, the program will
  52. reset to the minimum or maximum value.

  54. Suggestions for use:

  56. Many beautiful bitmaps are now available on bulletin boards.  If you have
  57. some that you are especially fond of, you can turn them into a 'slide show'
  58. like screen saver with this program.

  60. My 10 year old son has created some unique bitmaps in Paintbrush.  Local art
  61. such as this also makes a great screen saver.

  63. Technical Info:
  64.  
  65. This program reads bitmap files (.bmp extension) in Windows 3.0 or greater
  66. format.  There may be some bitmaps with older file formats that it cannot 
  67. read.  It can read 16 and 256 color bitmaps, but if you are using a
  68. 16 color video driver and load a 256 color bitmap, the colors may 
  69. look odd without a 256 driver.  Check your windows and video board
  70. documentation to see if you have a 256 color driver available.  If you are
  71. unsure of how to change drivers, get some help from someone with 
  72. experience.  Loading the incorrect driver could hang your system, so be
  73. careful.

  75. This program does not read compressed file formats such as 
  76. GIF or JPG files.

  80. Make Your Own Screen Saver is well tested, but does not come with any 
  81. guarantees.  As with other screen savers, some programs, 
  82. especially TSRs or other background programs may disrupt the 
  83. operation of MYOWNSS and result in unpredicatable behavior.
